Struggles are real. But so is hope.

One-on-One Counselling for Residents

Hope Housing provides one-on-one counselling for each of our residents.

Our dedicated team of counsellors who volunteer their time as they complete their final year of study help and support our residents through this valuable service.

Managed by Lisa Everett
Our Director of services, Lisa Everett, a member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), oversees all counselling services. She provides additional supervision and ensures the team follows the NCPS Ethical Framework. Each resident is offered weekly sessions, creating a supportive environment for meaningful progress.

Understanding Counselling

What is Counselling?
Counselling, often called “therapy,” is a type of talking therapy that provides a safe, confidential space for individuals to discuss challenges and emotions. It offers the opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings deeply, helping individuals make meaningful changes in their lives.

How Does Counselling Help?
Counsellors don’t give directives; instead, they guide residents to talk through their thoughts, helping to uncover root issues and develop personalised coping strategies, gaining an awareness of their behaviours and feelings.

How our counselling service works

Confidentiality and Assessment Process

Before starting, each resident receives a clinical assessment to understand their unique needs and to match them with a suitable counsellor. All sessions are strictly confidential—our counsellors are advanced DBS-checked, ensuring privacy and trust.

Initial Interest
If a resident shows interest in counselling, hope contacts them to arrange a counselling assessment.

Counselling Assessment
The director of services assesses the needs of the individual pairing them with the most suitable counsellor for their needs.

Weekly Sessions
Once matched, the resident meets with a counsellor weekly in our on-site Quiet Rooms, giving time to reflect and process each session.

Our Quiet Rooms

Almost a year ago, we proudly opened our new Quiet Rooms, generously funded by Dorset Freemasonry, the Solent Area of Hants & IOW Masons, and the Masonic Charitable Foundation Dorset Masonic Care. Overlooking the serene Hope gardens, these rooms provide a peaceful and private space for one-on-one counselling, training, and education.
